Red Sox Road Woes, Rockies Gun Shows, and Other Ridiculous Junk

Shame on you Red Sox.
Is there logically any reason you should’ve kept Smoltz and Penny. Penny was a logical trading tool before the deadline, now his value slowly declines. Smoltz… well you know this much.
8 ER tonight.

Here was my night:
no no No No NO NO NO! NO!

Yep. Had there been decent pitching, we would’ve won. Quality or EVEN DECENT pitching would’ve done it.
6 runs is generally good enough run support for a decent pitcher.
Giving up 8 runs, is nowhere near decent.

ANYWAY… I’ve been in school (accelerated classes for summer credits) so I’ve been swamped. I apologize for not letting anyone know this ._.

Good god things have changed.
V-Mart rules. I know this much.

Lets start from the top:

Sox Thoughts:
Really guys? Really.
I saw some mistakes…
I saw Saito not walking Longoria with two outs in extras.
I saw Smoltz being kept on the active roster.
I saw CLAY BUCHHOLZ being warmed up in the bullpen… what??
I saw Adam LaRoche traded for Casey Kotchman (No offense Kotchman, but the trade was kind of stupid and meaningless, theres not a ton of difference between you two)
I saw Masterson go to the Indians (*cry*) [Now my autograph will be devalued]
I saw us aquire NOT aquire Orlando Cabrera when he was on the market
I saw us NOT aquiring more pen.
I saw Ortiz get busted for roids
I saw… I don’t know. Things I’m angry about.

Point is… this needs to stop at some point. Make it now. Please make it now.

Rockies Thoughts:
First thought: Why does Jason Marquis suck in MLB 2k9? For shame roster updates…

Anyway… For a team that started off like junk this year… I am very surprised. Playing like champs.

Tulo has his swing back.
The pitching staff is working!
Bullpen was aquirred!

I like how it looks, but San Fransisco is damn pesky right now.
Their offense doesn’t function worth a can of beans, but they have pitching. Its very annoying.
Someone cripple their entire pitching rotation please.

If I’m lucky… I’ll see them in the playoffs. (IF, big IF)
Lets hope for the best

To cap this all off….
The lovely people at Surviving Grady have provided me a video.
This video is posted on their site every time the Sox lose on their road trip.
Break the streak, get rid of the evil accordian man.
C’est la vie.

The Accordion of Fail

I’ll post a countdown later to make up for how painful that video is…

Always feels like… somebody’s watchin him,

I’m Back! =O

Holy ****!!! It’s been awhile. I’ve been doing a LOT of stuff since school left out and ……

oh nobody cares about that

Time to get down to business:

  • Josh Vitters: My favorite minor leaguer is destroying single-A pitching. Last time I checked he was at .333 w/ 13 Hrs….please don’t trade him away Hendry….unless you can acquire Halladay or maybe Peavy.
  • Jake Fox: Hit very well in the majors to go along w/ his triple crown leading minor league stats. Yet he got sent down so that Aaron Miles could get back on the roster…..thats just what we needed to help our hitting, send down the guy that was ACTUALLY hitting for a dude w/ no power and a sub .200 avg.
  • Extra Innings: WTF I’m getting sick of all these extra inning games not to mention we seem to suck when it gets past the ninth inning….we just really need A-Ram back so that we can score more than 1 run.
  • Starters: The starters are magical leading the League in ERA. :D
  • Relievers: Are a different story >_<
  • DLee: Starting to hit again. Hes been one of my fav. players since 2004 so it has been hard to see him struggling the past two years. He wasn’t too bad last year I’m just sad that his power has disappeared (**** you Furcal).
  • Bradley and Soto: Sigh
  • Ascanio and Guzman: <3
  • Division: This division is too close hopefully when we get healthy again we will pull away.
  • Red Sox: LOL YANKEES 0-7 (that was for you Mike)

I will post more often now. :)

Around The League (AL) 05/01/09

So…boys and girls… In the interest of time I’m going to skip over yesterday’s roundup. Also, besides the Sox game, there were only 3 other games.

That being said… I usually wont skip over days with few games. I just happened to have finals-related business to attend to.
As many of you might know. Finals do take priority.

Anyway… Lets get this started:

1)Minnesota Twins
The Mauer… ACTIVATED:

MauerPower

Mister Joseph Mauer, you never fail to impress me do you?
As most of you already know, Mauer was activated off the DL on Friday. Boy, was he ready to come back.
In the 1st inning. Mauer did what he does best. Hit the home run.
By the time the game was over, Mauer had gone 2 for 3.
Nice day Joe.

Other stellar performances of the night included our favorite Minnesotan Canadian: Justin Morneau. Who also went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs/1 HR

Slowey was a bit off on the mound that day giving up 5, but the Minnesota bullpen ripped through giving up 0 ER over 4 innings.

2) New York Yankees
Angels bullpen fails to understand “hold”:
500921b5-edcc-4d82-b3c1-383eae646a4d.jpg
So.. Weaver sucked pretty hard his first inning… giving up four runs.
Oddly enough, he bounced back and pitched the next five scoreless.
This is where the “penfail” comes in

FYI: Penfail is my new term for when a bullpen blows a game. Don’t like it? Live with it.

So… Angels had just massively rallied in the top of the 6th, and Yankees had gotten shut down by weaver in the bottom.
On to the 8th/9th
Rodriguez gives up two runs
Arredondo gives up two runs
Fuentes can still save right?
Wrong.
Blown save… courtesy of Brian Fuentes (God, I bet you’re missing K-Rod bad right now.)

As for the Yankees… they continue to take advantage of bad pitching quite well.
Their park also continues to astound me with the massive amount of home runs and a ridiculous amount of carry on every hit.

Yanks top performer was Jorge Posada, who went 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs

Someone needs to settle that pen down.

3)Toronto Blue Jays
On Halladay…

Roy Halladay.. is… just.. too good.
Although he did give up 3 ER, he pitched a ******** 8 innings with 6 Ks
Halladay is now 5-1

The best in batting came from Barajas as he went 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs

Orioles need to get their game back. Badly.

4)Cleveland Indians
Rally Killer
It was just too damn close for the Tigers on Friday. Things just didn’t go right for them
Armando Galaragga, usually a solid and masterful pitcher on the mound, gave up 5 runs.
Bad game, shake it off and try again.
The tigers did manage to rally up in the 8th only to be killed one run short of tying it up.

Pavano got the win pitching 7 innings with only 2 ER

My head seems to be aching pretty badly… so for now we must part.
Will be writing about Friday’s Sox game as soon as this headache clears up.

Getting a tylenol,
-Mike

Around The League (AL) 4/28/09

A lot to cover… lets get started:

New York Yankees
Detroit Tigers Bullpen: Ruining Quality Starts Since 2009!
BrandonLyon.jpeg
New York (ugh) had a much needed victory today… giving them a shot at actually winning this series. Edwin Jackson had a quality start, going scoreless for six.
And then the bullpen came in…
10 Runs in the 7th
What the hell is that?
Thats terrible bullpen work right there.
I do need to give credit where credit is due… Yankees, you can truly produce offense when a pitcher fails (sarcasm).
“I’ve never seen anything like that in my life, you are 0-0 through six, and then it is 10-0? That’s not something I ever remember.” Jim Leyland told the press.
I don’t blame him for being pissed about it. I would be.
One thing I have positive to say about the Yankees
Phil Hughes: You are a damn good pitcher, I am impressed
I hope you get injured soon.
Detroit, Please win for me tonight.
Minnesota Twins
Twinkies Win! Morneau “finds himself”
AkwardJump
Before I begin, I’d like to make a note that I chose this picture because it’s extremely awkward. Morales pretty much tried to jump into Cuddyer’s arms and he pretty much pushed his crotch into Cuddyer’s face. Cuddyer seems to be completely missing Morales as well.
Anyway…
Justin Morneau started out with a homer, and ended with a hustle.
The game winning play, which was pretty awesome, came with Morneau hustling it out to first to beat out a double play. That hustle was what got it, as the winning run would score.
Nice time to come back Morenau, very nice time.
Lets see if the Twinkies can keep this up

Mariners
Losing Streak Ended: Mariners Come Back
So it seems that after getting beat in the first game, albeit barely, the Mariners were somehow able to come back and DESTROY the White Sox in the second game.
Touche Mariners, Touche.
Hernandez now has 4 wins under his belt.

Blue Jays
Richmond Rocks, Meche continues to be a steaming pile of… yeah
Vernon Wells had a dominant night, with 3 RBIs
Once again, Coco Crisp got on base and scored… Kansas must be happy they made that trade with the Sox.
Gil Meche continues to be completely not dominant, giving up 5 runs on 7 hits and 5 walks..
He left the game after 3 and 2/3 innings with “lower back stiffness”
I think that is code for “I’m failing, take me out”

Those who weren’t mentioned today I didn’t find exciting. Angels, try and
make your games more thrilling please. I also have to admit that I didn’t watch the Rangers/A’s game… Both teams have absolutely no significance to me fantasy or otherwise. I promise I’ll watch all the games for tonight. Pinky Swear.

Feeling somewhat energetic today
-Mike

Around The League (AL) 4/27/09

Quick note for the uninitiated: Only my top picks get pics. That being said… lets get moving.

Detroit Tigers

WELCOME BACK MR. VERLANDER

Justin Verlander.jpg

Hello Ace. We’ve missed you.
Detroit Tigers 4
New York Yankees 2

9ks over 7 innings.
Scoreless
Good Lord

Its always nice to see New York finding its way towards the bottom end of the standings.
New York is slumping bad fellas. Someone needs to inform Girardi that his team isn’t a team. His team is a list of players with big contracts.

Magglio, in a completely unsurprising turn of events, capped the two run jack.
Cabrera and Polanco were ever vigilant as always driving in 1 and 2 runs respectively.

Kansas City Royals

Toronto Who? Guillen tells the DL what’s what:
GuillenHomer
Jose Guillen, who had a recent stint on the DL, was activated on Saturday. Guillen came rip roaring into this game with… wait for it
Two Homers.
Not only that, but the Royals just rocked the top team in the east.
Toronto keeps losing, Boston keeps winning… I sense a change in the standings approaching.
I’m liking the Royals a little. Our boy Coco Crisp is over there and has been lighting it up for a good portion of the year.

As for David Purcey… the man is going into his third loss.
I feel for you buddy, but you belong to Toronto, and Toronto is in my division, I fail to have any words of wisdom for someone that i need to see losing games.

Rays

Don’t Call It A Comeback (Don’t Worry, I Won’t):

Another rival who wants to show up the standings board in the AL east. I would be talking about this more and giving it more attention had it not been for the match up. The Twins have been hurting ever since Mauer got injured. Baker has not been himself, and nor have any of the other twins pitchers. I think Tampa was set up to have a nice easy match up today.

Tampa is still doing horrid in my books. Lets see if they win some bigger games.

Texas Rangers

Death, Destruction, and Crushed Birds:

Look Orioles, I’m sorry to break it to you but you’re never going to be as amazing as your offense promises to be. You started out a year masterfully, you went up against giants and took a tough stance…

Then you ran into the Red Sox, you got swept, and you became… The Orioles.

On the flip side: Texas, things look bright for you. Your pitching isn’t complete suck anymore. Your offense is one step away from godly. You might just be one of the teams to beat this year.

Coming off a series win, we’ll see where Texas goes

Chicago White Sox
Seattle Mariners
You got rained out… Lame.

Dying at 2 AM

God, I’m so freaking impatient…

AprilFools.jpeg

I woke up this morning to find this little gem in the NY Daily News… I just thought I might want to share it with you.

We’re riding high here.

A few little kinks in the road scare me:

JD. Drew’s Tight Left Quad:
Mr. Drew… please stop injuring yourself. It scares me. I realize that you are not the youngest guy on the team but you have glass bones, ligaments, and muscles. If you’re really getting injured this often in the outfield perhaps you should become the next DH?

Shortstop?
NickGreenisGreen.jpeg
Nick Green, I will miss you. You have actually been an asset to this team! Don’t leave! I know Lugo is coming back, but I personally believe if you’re the replacement player, his VORP has to be awfully low. Lets let him rehab for like…..another year!

Now sold in special Finals Edition,
-Mike

Can you say SWEEP?

dd9a7f94f7b6adbe1cb62c93e29e39f1-getty-85128797_jr001.jpg

Game 1: Sox 5 – Yanks 4
Game 2: Sox 16 – Yanks 11
Game 3: Sox 4 – Yanks 1

I can say sweep (Yankee and Homestead!)… and 10 game streak… and 2nd in AL East… 1st  in Wildcard…

Things I want to address:
1) Youkilis, you are the new face of fear.
2) I am fairly certain that Masterson descended from baseball heaven and is here to lift the Sox into the playoffs.
3) Jacoby Ellsbury has CAJONES.

Lets start from the top:
Youkilis has grown into a very scary batter.
.444/.391/.482
You know that he’s a threat when the New York Yankees are crapping their pants as he steps up to the plate.
They pitched around him, and intentionally walked him a number of times.
Damaso Marte thought he had the balls to pitch to him, so he pitched one in the strike zone and Youkilis launched it over the monster.
Good work buddy.

Next up.. Justin Masterson:
You were one of my heroes as a reliver last year. You got called up and you rose to the occasion, filling any space you were placed into.
At spring training, you signed a baseball for me.
This season, you not only lived up to my extremely high expectations, you blew them out of the water.
Relief was your shindig, you were there. You did your job every time you got on to that mound.
Then the unthinkable happened: Dasiuke Matsuzaka crapped out. He’s on the DL.
Who comes to the rescue? JUSTIN FREAKIN MASTERSON!
Not only did you nicely fit in the starting rotation, you have had two AWESOME starts.
You held the Yankees to 1 run, I am in awe.

Finally… Jacoby Ellsbury, The Speed Machine:
Man. Jacoby has got some BRASS BALLS, no make that steel.
Pettitte is pitching and you have the the cajones to take off and try to steal home, not only that but you MAKE IT.
You didn’t think I’d leave you without a link did you?
Watch it here (Courtesy of SOX & Dawgs, props on the quality video guys!)
Brave is an understatement.
Jacoby Ellsbury is the Man.
You will RESPECT the Man.
This year, there’s some things he has to live up to as he won his spot in CF, he’s paying off for that promise in full. Nice to see you back Ellsbury.

Monday: We go to Cleveland
Wakefield v. Lee

Wakefield is on fire as of late, lets see Wakey demolish some tribesmen.

I’ve recently stumbled into a superstition of my own. I’ve worn my titanium necklace (the same one Beckett wears, the camo one), and a Sox shirt since this streak started. I was wearing this the day it began, and I’m still wearing Sox shirts (I have quite a lot of them). After 10 straight games, my superstition is well founded. I’ll keep wearing it. Nuff’ said.

Losing a ton of sleep,
-Mike
