Cubbies’ Bullpen Solution
Yes, the bullpen is really bad this year. I wasn’t too happy about letting Kerry Wood go in the offseason after a pretty good first year as closer, I mean at least offer him arb. so we can get the supplemental draft pick.
The Ceda/Gregg trade was also disappointing. We gave up a flamethrowing 23 year old for a 30 year old with a pretty good sized salary, who is coming off knee surgery. Also, sticking Marshall into the rotation makes us rely on Cotts to be the LOOGY (Lefty One Out Guy). Just one problem Cotts can’t get lefties out. Cotts BAA Lefties showed that he was better getting righties out last year than lefties.
So here are some of my solutions:
- First order of business is please FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GET RID OF NEAL COTTS!!
- End the David Patton experiment. Yes I love underdog stories as much as the next person but he is just doing horrible. Try to get his rights from the rockies so we can let him spend some time developing in the minors, preferably AA, cause he is better than a High A pitcher.
- Call up Waddell he looked great in spring training and hes got a 3.12 ERA so far this year. Plus, he is a lefty specialist.
- Give Marmol some rest because he doesn’t look right.
- Stop using Heilman so much, otherwise he will get burned out.
- In place of Patton, call up Jeff Stevens or Jose Ascanio. Both are dominating at the moment.
I think these moves will help a bit. I also think Hendry will make some sort of trade for a bullpen arm before the allstar break.

Really???
The usually sure thing Marmol came in and here is how he did:
- With one man on, 5 pitch walk
- Sac bunt, men on 2nd and 3rd. One out
- Intentionally walks Chad Tracy. Bases loaded
- Walk. Run scores. Bases loaded
- 4 pitch walk. Another run scores. Bases STILL loaded.
Then after that the Shark came and and served up a double clearing the bases. I am truly sickened by the display today. It’s one thing to have a team beat you by smacking the ball all over the place, but walking them on is just asking for a punishment. 10 walks. Good lord.
Demp. has been off all year, ever since the playoff game he walks people constantly. The bullpen is the worst though, last time I checked the bullpen walked more than the starters. Which is just pitiful.
Now on too the batters. What happened? yesterday you guys explode for 11 runs, today you get two hits. What gives? Soto is still cold as ice and apparently the rest of the team is following suit.
Preview and my bullpen solution later. Not too happy right now

FU-KU-DO-ME!

Before I start the story on Fukudome I want to address this first. What
is with other teams and throwing at Sori’s head I noticed he gets a lot
of throws up at his face. It’s fine if you want to plunk an opposing
player but please don’t endanger him. With that said I don’t think
Wellemeyer intentionally threw at him, however I am positive that the
Braves have been the past 2 years.
Anyways back to the man of the hour…I’m looking forward to going to Wrigley next month and hearing the FU-KU-DO-ME chant again. After his horrible and I mean HORRIBLE 2nd half last year he wasn’t getting many cheers.
This year he seems to be making more solid contact and is no longer doing pirouettes every time he swings. I mean 4 HRs so far, last year he hit 10 all year. He also seems to be more confident in the box and isn’t getting killed by the down and in fastball this year like he was so many times last year. If the Cubbies can get solid production like this out of Fukudome all year we wont have too many problems letting Crazy Milt. either sit out, getting suspended, or not hitting.
Preview:
Today were up against the D-Backs, unfortunately we are still a little shorthanded with Milton, A-ram, Marmol, and possibly D Lee fighting some minor injuries.
D-backs decided to throw a curveball at us and put Dan Haren in to face Lilly instead of Petit. So this matchup is instantly more fun to watch.
I still see the Cubs winning but now the score will be 3-2 instead of
Lilly (2-1) v. Haren (1-3)
Prediction: I still see the Cubs winning but now the score will be 3-2 instead of 6-2
