The Big Z Show
3 for 4 with a single, double, homer, and 2 RBIs. Yea….he was that good. He was a triple shy of being the first pitcher to have a cycle. Wouldn’t that be just the coolest thing to say to people….”Oh yea I’ve thrown a no-hitter and hit for the cycle, no big deal”.
In other Cubs news, Sori continues to hit the cover off the ball…..from the leadoff spot. So please Lou don’t try to move Sori anymore, he really, really struggles when he is not leadoff.
Also, Koyie “Three Finger” Hill came to play while Soto is taking his “Mental” break. Hill is making the most of his playing time this year, batting .370 in his limited time with the Cubs. Also Len and Bob said one really cool stat that shows Koyie’s pitch calling ability…the cubs are 22-9 when Koyie Hill starts. Yea you read that right. The only problem with him before this year was that he couldn’t hit, well it seems he learned how to hit.
Later I’m going to write a story on Jake Fox and why the **** the Cubs haven’t called him up yet. But first preview of tomorrows game:
Starting Pitchers
Demp. (1-0) 4.88 ERA v. Davis (1-3) 3.67 ERA
Who’s Hot
Sori- Sori is just plain blazing right now, 2 HRs in 2 games and 4 RBIs last night.
Fook- Fukudome is still hitting the ball everywhere and also taking mucho walks. Lets just hope he doesn’t decline as the season goes on again.
Koyie- Koyie is on a 7 game hit streak and LOVING his playing time with the Cubs. One of the best moves Lou made was calling Koyie up and dumping Bako.
FonteYES- Little Babe Ruth is wacking the ball hard these last two games, 2 HRs…DeRosa who?
Who’s Not
Big Milt- Still a little off because of that sore groin (OUCH) but he did get 2 hits last night which was a good sign.
Soto- Soto is in a hardcore slump, its a pain to own him in fantasy right now. Just gotta pray he doesn’t end up with a sophomore slump.
Prediction (0-1)
My prediction for this game is a win by the Cubbies. Dempster hasn’t been that great this year as he has walked waaaaaay too many people, but he did show progress last game by walking only one. Doug Davis is doing better than his record shows because he has a 3.67 ERA but the Cubs have done fairly well against him, excluding the playoffs, but thats a different story.
Cubs 5-3

FU-KU-DO-ME!

Before I start the story on Fukudome I want to address this first. What
is with other teams and throwing at Sori’s head I noticed he gets a lot
of throws up at his face. It’s fine if you want to plunk an opposing
player but please don’t endanger him. With that said I don’t think
Wellemeyer intentionally threw at him, however I am positive that the
Braves have been the past 2 years.
Anyways back to the man of the hour…I’m looking forward to going to Wrigley next month and hearing the FU-KU-DO-ME chant again. After his horrible and I mean HORRIBLE 2nd half last year he wasn’t getting many cheers.
This year he seems to be making more solid contact and is no longer doing pirouettes every time he swings. I mean 4 HRs so far, last year he hit 10 all year. He also seems to be more confident in the box and isn’t getting killed by the down and in fastball this year like he was so many times last year. If the Cubbies can get solid production like this out of Fukudome all year we wont have too many problems letting Crazy Milt. either sit out, getting suspended, or not hitting.
Preview:
Today were up against the D-Backs, unfortunately we are still a little shorthanded with Milton, A-ram, Marmol, and possibly D Lee fighting some minor injuries.
D-backs decided to throw a curveball at us and put Dan Haren in to face Lilly instead of Petit. So this matchup is instantly more fun to watch.
I still see the Cubs winning but now the score will be 3-2 instead of
Lilly (2-1) v. Haren (1-3)
Prediction: I still see the Cubs winning but now the score will be 3-2 instead of 6-2
