So…boys and girls… In the interest of time I’m going to skip over yesterday’s roundup. Also, besides the Sox game, there were only 3 other games.

That being said… I usually wont skip over days with few games. I just happened to have finals-related business to attend to.
As many of you might know. Finals do take priority.

Anyway… Lets get this started:

1)Minnesota Twins
The Mauer… ACTIVATED:

MauerPower

Mister Joseph Mauer, you never fail to impress me do you?
As most of you already know, Mauer was activated off the DL on Friday. Boy, was he ready to come back.
In the 1st inning. Mauer did what he does best. Hit the home run.
By the time the game was over, Mauer had gone 2 for 3.
Nice day Joe.

Other stellar performances of the night included our favorite Minnesotan Canadian: Justin Morneau. Who also went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs/1 HR

Slowey was a bit off on the mound that day giving up 5, but the Minnesota bullpen ripped through giving up 0 ER over 4 innings.

2) New York Yankees
Angels bullpen fails to understand “hold”:
500921b5-edcc-4d82-b3c1-383eae646a4d.jpg
So.. Weaver sucked pretty hard his first inning… giving up four runs.
Oddly enough, he bounced back and pitched the next five scoreless.
This is where the “penfail” comes in

FYI: Penfail is my new term for when a bullpen blows a game. Don’t like it? Live with it.

So… Angels had just massively rallied in the top of the 6th, and Yankees had gotten shut down by weaver in the bottom.
On to the 8th/9th
Rodriguez gives up two runs
Arredondo gives up two runs
Fuentes can still save right?
Wrong.
Blown save… courtesy of Brian Fuentes (God, I bet you’re missing K-Rod bad right now.)

As for the Yankees… they continue to take advantage of bad pitching quite well.
Their park also continues to astound me with the massive amount of home runs and a ridiculous amount of carry on every hit.

Yanks top performer was Jorge Posada, who went 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs

Someone needs to settle that pen down.

3)Toronto Blue Jays
On Halladay…

Roy Halladay.. is… just.. too good.
Although he did give up 3 ER, he pitched a ******** 8 innings with 6 Ks
Halladay is now 5-1

The best in batting came from Barajas as he went 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs

Orioles need to get their game back. Badly.

4)Cleveland Indians
Rally Killer
It was just too damn close for the Tigers on Friday. Things just didn’t go right for them
Armando Galaragga, usually a solid and masterful pitcher on the mound, gave up 5 runs.
Bad game, shake it off and try again.
The tigers did manage to rally up in the 8th only to be killed one run short of tying it up.

Pavano got the win pitching 7 innings with only 2 ER

My head seems to be aching pretty badly… so for now we must part.
Will be writing about Friday’s Sox game as soon as this headache clears up.

Getting a tylenol,
-Mike

Around The League (AL) 4/29/09: NOW WITH RANKINGS!

From now on, the league roundup will be in a new format. I’d like to play a little game.

From now on the AL roundup is going to be in Top 4 format.
My Top 2 picks get pics. Simple right?
The bottom 2 get coverage.
Sox always get coverage in a separate place.
Whoever is left over didn’t create a story.
Occasionally, if there are more than 4 games that amaze me, I will post about all of them.

EDIT: Upon further inspection of my game, I have just decided to keep a running total of each team and see what team gets the most by the end of the year:

Running Scoreboard:
Kansas City Royals- 4
Minnesota Twins- 3
Anaheim Angels- 2
New York Yankees- 1

Note: I will not call them “Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim” as that is complete BS

At the end of the season, the team on top of the scoreboard will be the victor.
I’ll dedicate a post to them and their epicness.
Lets get started!
1) Kansas City Royals
The Greinkmeister Strikes Again!
Greinkmeister.jpg
If you didn’t see this flying in at number 1, you’re absolutely insane. Greinke has become somewhat of a genius pitcher with 5 wins and a .50 ERA that is completely off the wall. He also has an astounding 44 Ks over 36 innings pitched.
Speaking of the Royals… Billy Butler had a tremendous night as he went 4 for 5 with 4 RBIs and 2 HR.
Hits were plentiful on the Royal’s side tonight with other highlights including Mark Teahen‘s two run jack and Mike Aviles‘ two run double.
Props to you Royals, you look very formidable in your division.
2) Minnesota Twins
KazFail

Scotty, you’re killing me here. Well, in fantasy baseball. In reality, if you were a threat to the Sox in the standings, I would not want you to win. You’re at the bottom so I feel some sympathy for you.
Today… You managed to walk 4 and throw 2 wild pitches. If thats not enough, 4 runs were scored in the 1st. You ended the game with 8 runs against you, 6 of which were earned.
On the bright side: Mr. Canadian… Justin Morneau had a terrific night with 3 hits, 1 RBI, and a walk. Wicked way to play buddy. You’re the spark of life on my fantasy team when Kazmir goes bottom up.
Next, the Cliches face the Sox: Am I the only one that hopes there losing streak will continue?
3) Angels
The Birds Get Crushed Again, and Swept Away
Sometimes, the Angels actually interest me. Tonight was one of those nights as they completed a two game sweep of the orioles. Random Rookie Pitcher of The Day Shane Loux acquired his first win of the season after taking 2 losses earlier.
I am astounded with how the Angels have managed themselves despite the fact that their bullpen is literally ripping apart and falling to pieces. Somehow, they keep winning. I feel like they have a very good knack for finding pitching.
Torii Hunter had his bright moment with a solo jack
Howie Kendrick was the star of the day with a solo jack and an RBI, and I have to say he’s looking very positive this season. Watch out for this one if he can keep it up.
Thriving under pressure, its good for ya!
4) New York Yankees
Porcello becomes a Christmas tree

Wow! Joba The Hutt didn’t suck tonight! Good for him.

Joba Chamberlain pitched a pretty good seven innings with 3 hits and 3 walks, scoreless.
Unfortunately, You can’t say the same for Rick Porcello who got lit up like a lamplight parade on New Year’s, giving up 7, count em’, 7 runs in the 4th inning.
On the Yanks side of things, Nick Swisher settled in with 2 home runs.
One thing for the Yankees to take notice of in this game was not their starter’s performance or their offense.
It’s their bullpen.
Anyone who knows me knows i talk about the Yankees bullpen and how many things are wrong with it. Heres a good example.
In the 9th inning, there was a 5 run rally.
Thats not good New York.. pay attention to your bullpen.
Jonathan Albaldejo gave up 2 runs
Mariano Rivera gave up 3 runs (off a homer nonetheless, yet again)
Watch yourselves.
Until Tomorrow…
Can’t seem to clean up my room,
-Mike

Around The League (AL) 4/28/09

A lot to cover… lets get started:

New York Yankees
Detroit Tigers Bullpen: Ruining Quality Starts Since 2009!
BrandonLyon.jpeg
New York (ugh) had a much needed victory today… giving them a shot at actually winning this series. Edwin Jackson had a quality start, going scoreless for six.
And then the bullpen came in…
10 Runs in the 7th
What the hell is that?
Thats terrible bullpen work right there.
I do need to give credit where credit is due… Yankees, you can truly produce offense when a pitcher fails (sarcasm).
“I’ve never seen anything like that in my life, you are 0-0 through six, and then it is 10-0? That’s not something I ever remember.” Jim Leyland told the press.
I don’t blame him for being pissed about it. I would be.
One thing I have positive to say about the Yankees
Phil Hughes: You are a damn good pitcher, I am impressed
I hope you get injured soon.
Detroit, Please win for me tonight.
Minnesota Twins
Twinkies Win! Morneau “finds himself”
AkwardJump
Before I begin, I’d like to make a note that I chose this picture because it’s extremely awkward. Morales pretty much tried to jump into Cuddyer’s arms and he pretty much pushed his crotch into Cuddyer’s face. Cuddyer seems to be completely missing Morales as well.
Anyway…
Justin Morneau started out with a homer, and ended with a hustle.
The game winning play, which was pretty awesome, came with Morneau hustling it out to first to beat out a double play. That hustle was what got it, as the winning run would score.
Nice time to come back Morenau, very nice time.
Lets see if the Twinkies can keep this up

Mariners
Losing Streak Ended: Mariners Come Back
So it seems that after getting beat in the first game, albeit barely, the Mariners were somehow able to come back and DESTROY the White Sox in the second game.
Touche Mariners, Touche.
Hernandez now has 4 wins under his belt.

Blue Jays
Richmond Rocks, Meche continues to be a steaming pile of… yeah
Vernon Wells had a dominant night, with 3 RBIs
Once again, Coco Crisp got on base and scored… Kansas must be happy they made that trade with the Sox.
Gil Meche continues to be completely not dominant, giving up 5 runs on 7 hits and 5 walks..
He left the game after 3 and 2/3 innings with “lower back stiffness”
I think that is code for “I’m failing, take me out”

Those who weren’t mentioned today I didn’t find exciting. Angels, try and
make your games more thrilling please. I also have to admit that I didn’t watch the Rangers/A’s game… Both teams have absolutely no significance to me fantasy or otherwise. I promise I’ll watch all the games for tonight. Pinky Swear.

Feeling somewhat energetic today
-Mike
